Italy

Nice and it's surrounding towns are very close to the Italian border. Nice (or Nissa) used to be part of Italy and was ceded to France in the 1860's. It is pretty common to fine Niçois people speaking both French and Italian and you see a lot of Italian influence in the area, mainly to do with food.

It is also pretty common for those in the south of France to travel over the border to buy certain goods cheaper as taxes are lower and prices are a bit less than in France. Items like parmesan cheese, alcohol and cigarettes are among the things people cross the border to buy.

For visitors to the area, taking the short drive is a kind of a novelty because you get two countries for the price of one! I've traveled over the border several times before but this time, decided to go to San Remo, which is about 45 minutes into ltaly once passing the border. It's a coastal town with some shopping and restaurants.

We navigated to the indoor market which is kind of like a farmers market including goods such as olive oils, bottles veggies, sweets and more.

Afterwards, we decided to visit the Mall of San Remo, which is a collection of luxury stores in an outdoor mall style setting. The store included Gucci, Saint Laurent, Versace, Valentino amongst many others.

We were getting hungry so we decided to grab some lunch at the restaurant at the mall. It was delish and had this beautiful floral wall that was perfect for some photo ops.

Afterwards, we decided to drive the coastal road home which was nice. We really enjoyed it!
